I’m still riding but like other posts..just not as much. I think the Spang race ended my season. Weather is starting to cool off. Its been on/off rain …in the 50’s at times and often really windy. In addition to my classes(face to face this term) I’m limited on my time. Not excuse to not get out there but its certainly time consuming. Especialy if I plan to pass the math class I need to do the reviews plus some lol.
Anywho, I have been managing some 20 milers. A bit short and I may not actualy get my goal of a 60 miler this fall after all ..due to the above. But I do expect myself to use the trainer all the time this winter so I am in decent shape when I start out next spring!
Yesterday I did a hilly ride because it was so darn windy. Robs always telling me hills is where you should be in windy days. Well getting to the hills wasnt the easiest. I dont know what the gusts were but I know I was being whipped around on the road like never before. If I didnt have good grip on the handle bars I certainly would have gone down with a gust. It was refreshing afterwards though and the hills are still getting easier!!
Rob and I went to see a German criterium (sp) on sunday. He participated but him and the guy he did it with ducked out at some point. Those germans are insane riders and they just werent fully prepared for the strenght of these guys. Most certainly because the germans had been racing all season and were in tip top shape where as this was Robs first ever german criterium. He gained some knowledge as to what he needs to improve on for next year’s attempts. Didnt help that he realized once we got back to the car that his rear break pads had been rubbing! A few other people (germans) ducked out as well during the race because once you get so far behind the pack its pointless to keep going. At one point while I was spectating…the lead guy on I believe the 3rd or 4th lap (out of 50) took a corner wrong and went down. He was ok but out of the game as well. I have pictures that i’ll be posting. Not many but a few.
So I was hoping for more pictures like our race last year but all we got were the 4 in total..the starting line and the sabers that won afterwards. Actual race shot would have been awesome. But heres the Saber group whom placed most of the categories. Unless there are more photo’s that just arent put up.
I came in first for overall women’s and for my category but again there werent many people to race against and the 2 that I did hadnt rode in over a year and were doing it casualy. So really there was no competition again. Hubs came in 2nd place for his category and 4th overall.
It was a fun race and as always they did a great job in setting it up. Especialy since it was free this year!
The weather has been way less than par lately. Its been ugly rainy. So much to the point that I cant tell if my sleepiness is from a lack of Iron or just flat out the weather. Eitherway I’m gonna take me some supliments just in case. Not to mention that and the lack of exercise has been affecting my mood making me slightly grouchy. I am also risking the cold (high 50’s low 60’s) windy air today and gonna do a 2o mile ride. I havent rode since the bike race and before that well as i’ve said..my ridings been a bit slow. Im starting to gain back the weight that i’ve lost and its frustrating, time to cut back on the portions and sweets again adding in more salads and tea. The meals for Hubs plan have been alittle tricky to keep up with because the store just doesnt always have what we need. Last nights dinner had to be substituted with frozen spinach (yuck). I think I will be cutting back a bit on eating his foods seeing as its all carbs and I havent been exercising much. It was intending for a highly active person anyways. I will also be doing some treadmill time (since biking my knee’s hurt when I run on pavement) at the gym and possibly even trying out the weight equipment. With weather the way it is now i’ll be holding off on the pool (only went once so far, what a joke) until the indoor is reopened. Probably next month sometime.
Thats the latest in my cycling world.
Things have been a little slow for me the last 2 weeks as far as biking goes. Between homework and crappy weather I havent seen much of the road. I’ve been managed to cram in some 20 milers here and there. This weekedn is our Eifel Classic road race. I need to focus on not consuming boxes of gas station doughnuts (like i’ve done this weekend) and to focus more on substantial foods and lots of water. I have not been hydrating like I should be. I find it easier to watch my drinking habits when I have a large bottles water vs carrying around a glass of water. I dont know why that would affect my water intake but it does. So starting tonight I will be forcing myself to take in lots of water the rest of the week. As well as sticking to Robs diet which i’ve been failing horribly this weekend. I missed out on making a few of the dinner..mainly out of lazyness but also because of his schedual and the fact that his good friend is living in the area..we tend to do quick meals in that case when he’s staying over.
Basicaly its been a crappy week or 2 of cycling or lack their of. It happens to all of us at some time or other.
Today I was going to cram in some bike time until the hubby called and decided he wanted to go with me after he got off work..so now here I sit waiting past the time he told me and still he’s not home. This may be another flop of a cycling day. Boo!
…but of course you have to climb to it.
The hills are getting easier. Though I suppose a true way to find this out would be to dare myself on that hill that drew tears out of me a while back. However, im not ready to have a blow to my current ego just yet so I think I may wait till the end of fall to do it again lol. The hilly ride of the Dreis route is getting easier. Still only managing 7mph up both hills but I dont feel as worn out during the climb nor after so I’m taking that as a good sign. Or it was the Gu Gel shot I took prior lol. I maxed out at a heart rate of about 190 the first time I challenged that hill. Now im averaging low to mid 180’s. A nice pace for me is at 160. I’ve got a fast heart beat compared to Rob. Where i’m pounding away at 170 he’s pounding away at 90.
As far as the meal plan is going..this past week was kind of a flop. We still ate good minus a day of pizza but this is because we had a friend staying over for a while so we werent able to stay on track with the meals. I’m still not following it 100% only because i’ve got a taste for foods that arent good for you lol. I monched on a nice piece of German Bakery (big heaping glob of custard in the middle…oh drool!), had pizza, had pizza bites, but now that I think of it I didnt have any candy! Go me! I have begun to see a change in my weight though. In total i’ve lost 7lbs now since I maxed out on my weight here. I’m about where I was pre-back injury. Only 5 more lbs to go until im at my 2008 weight.
Back to the meals….we’ve discovered that hummus makes a good replacement for mayonase/miracle whip as a spread. I’ve learned to oven-steam fresh vegetables (lightly rub olive oil on a foil sheet and wrap cut veggies in it, placing it in the oven at about 350-400 F about 10 mins or until to desired tenderness). I’m working on perfecting baked potatos. We’re prefecting our grilling and kabobing. We’re trying out new fish, had my first halibut steak the other day. Our fridge is almost all fresh foods..and with this we’re learning how quickly these fresh foods go bad! Berries should be eaten as soon as possible and bought frequently as well as spinach.
And with that…i’ve got nothing else to update on other than the local bike race is on the 15th and so far there is one girl in my category im up against and I have no idea who she is.
